2nd solo done
It’s been quite a long time since I flew last time. And nobody can’t say I didn’t try. It just looked like something tried to make me not to. I had to cancel three consecutive lessons due to technical problems with ‘my’ airplane. I suppose it’s normal when you fly one of a kind airplane in your club. Unfortunately I’m way to heavy to fly C152 so I have no choice but to fly Cherokee.
Today was quite a nice day. Everything looked like my second solo will be uneventful and most of the time it was. The only problem I had was wind correction. It was blowing 8kt directly down the runway. Few of my previous lessons, actually all of those when I finally started to understand and perform landings on my own, were done in almost calm weather. That resulted in way to long downwind today. I didn’t expect that 8kt wind will make such a difference. After three landings with low approach where I barely made the runway (no emergency, just need for some additional power on final) I finally figured out what’s going on. From then on all of the following approaches I turned base couple of seconds earlier and that solved my problem.
Terry got out after 6 landings and I did another 6 on my own. those were even more boring. As I said (did I?) before – flying solo is actually easier – it seems to me that this bird is much more responsive when lighter and is much easier to maintain proper airspeeds.
Now it’s time for 3rd solo and finally some real air work. Can’t wait!
