Another day, another hood time
Today’s lesson was similar to yesterday’s. Again 0.6h of instrument time. The only difference was that instead of training recoveries from unusual attitudes we tried short and soft field landings. I have to admit that it ain’t that hard to do short field landing in Cherokee. You just have to do one of those ‘crow bar’ approaches. You come in a little bit higher than usual, reduce power to idle, trim the bird to 80mph and this puppy goes down like it had no wings. 750-800 fpm easily gets you down short just after 50ft obstacle. Soft field landing is completely different beast. And I need more practice to master this one (well, at least to master it within PTS standards). I’m still not used to the view I have when landing in nose high attitude with some power on the final, but I’ll get to that before my checkride.
BTW. It’s almost fool moon, and that means night flying. Great!
